John Sax has appeared on most of the major Swedish opera stages, including the Royal Opera in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Opera, Värmlandsoperan, Norrlandsoperan, the Drottningholm Court Theatre and the Swedish Folkopera.

His opera repertoire includes such parts as Eugéne Onegin(Tchaikovsky), Schaunard and Marcello (Boheme/Puccini), Smirnov (The Bear/W Walton), Falke (Die Fledermaus/J. Strauss), Macrobio (La pietra del paragone/Rossini), Morales and Dancaire (Carmen/Bizet), Count Robinson (Il matrimonio segreto/Cimarosa), Jim O'Connor (The Glassmenagerie/Bibalo), Mr Gedge (Albert Herring/Britten), Macrobio in La Pietra del Paragone/Rossini,  Masino (La vera costanza/Haydn). 
John has also performed on several foreign opera stages; the Norwegian National Opera, Wiener Kammer Oper and the opera in Bonn among others.

He has worked with conductors such as Dennis Russel Davies, Emmanuel Joël, Brad Cohen, Henrik Schaefer, Jan Söderblom, Stefan Solyom, Patrik Ringborg, Alexander Drcar, Dietfred Bernet, Ingar Berby, Olof Boman, Erik Solén, Shuya Okatsu and many more.

John Sax has appeared as a soloist throughout Sweden, performing with some of the country's most renowned orchestras such as the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Stockholm Chamber Orchestra, The Dalasinfonietta, Camerata Roman and the Stockholm Baroque Orchestra among others.

His extensive oratorio repertory includes Kullervo (Sibelius),  S:t Matthew Passion, S:t John Passion, Actus Tragicus, Christmas Oratorio (Bach), The Messiah (Händel), Ein deutsches Requiem (Brahms), God in Disguise (Larsson), Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio and Fauré’s Requiem.

John is also a keen lieder singer with a wide repertoire including several of the major song cycles as Die Winterreise (Schubert), Dichterliebe, Liederkreis, Kerner Lieder (Schumann), Kindertotenlieder, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Des Knaben Wunderhorn, Sieben Lieder aus letzter Zeit (Mahler), Vier ernste Gesänge (Brahms) and King Erik’s visor (Rangström).

John Sax was trained at the University College of Opera in Stockholm and at the The European Mozart Foundation in Prague. Studies for Kerstin Meyer CBE, David Harper and Håkan Hagegård. He has been awarded a great number of scholarships, including that of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

John Sax has also released Schubert’s Winterreise on cd.
